Top Ten Tuesday! (#3):Books That Are Linked to Specific Memories

Hello there, lovely readers! It’s Tuesday again, which means…. Top Ten Tuesday!

So, this week’s topic is: Books That Are Linked to Specific Memory. I am actually kind of in love with this one, it made me take a look at my “Read” shelf on Goodreads and there were more books than I expected linked to specific memories. So, here we go!

1. The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien

You know, it’s funny, but these books are honestly the ones I have the earliest and most vivid memories of. My dad started reading The Hobbit to me when I was about 7 years old. I can’t even remember how many nights I would lay on his bed or next to his bed while he read to me and it was just the greatest thing in the world because my dad LOVES these books. They’re the only books he’s read for fun in more than 30 years.

2. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

I tried to find a smaller picture, but I just adore these covers and had to post it in all its glory! Anyways. My sister started reading these to me when I was 8. Only the first 3 were out at that point and we went to the midnight release for Goblet of Fire when that was released and that was the first one I read on my own. We went to every midnight release for the books and every movie release as well. We camped out 4 nights to be first in line at our movie theatre for the final Harry Potter movie. This series is just…. everything.

3. 1-800-Where-R-U and The Mediator by Meg Cabot

Goodness. These books. So many high school memories. I read these with a couple friends and they’ve always stuck with me. I had one of these in my backpack at almost all times, funnily enough. I don’t even know how many times I read them. Jesse was one of my first MAJOR book crushes.

4. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

This whole series was just one of the best reading experiences. I tend to tune out everything when I read, despite being completely aware of my surroundings- a talent I perfected while working guest services at a movie theatre and would read between customers when it was slow. But this one I picked up on a whim from the library and one morning my friend had to go to the DMV and wanted some company so we both grabbed our books and spent (as expected) several hours at the DMV. I cracked this baby open in those uncomfortable plastic chairs and read through more than half the book by the time we ended up leaving.

5. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Another book that I picked up from the library on a whim. Back when it had its old, original cover and I honestly don’t know what drew me to it. But I absolutely LOVED this book as soon as I picked it up. I brought it to every class with me (college) and finished it in one school day. I ended up driving to the library just before they closed to get the second one and shoved this in my friend’s hands. By the time I’d finished the second, she finished the first and then she flew through that and when I got out of class the next night (9:30 PM), I drove to the nearest Barnes and Noble and bought two copies of the third book that had been released the week prior. I dropped one at my friend’s house and we both devoured the third book. Since then I’ve read each one as they’re released.

6. The Potion Diaries by Amy Alward

This book is seriously underrated. It’s cute, it’s got an interesting premise, and it’s humorous. But I bought the first one from Barnes and Noble because I loved the cover and spent the whole break between my classes one day at a part reading this. Most days during that break I would go home, but I was so into this book I didn’t want to drive anywhere and just spent that beautiful afternoon in the park.

7. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Goodness. This book. I bought it AGES ago and it sat on my shelf for a good year or two. I picked it up on my way out the door one day when I was leaving for work. I worked a lot of projection shifts and I had a lot of downtime. The desk upstairs in the projection booth was one of the only places in the booth with light and all I picture is that desk alone there in the spot of light and me devouring this book. It took me a couple days to finish, but I finished it up in projection as well and I just LOVED this book so much.

8. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

My friend told me about these books in high school, back when there was only 3 books in the series. But I picked it up right after graduation and flew through those first 3 in no time at all, finishing right before Clockwork Angel came out and I just… loved it. I spent so many breaks between classes reading these books over and over. It reminds me of that first semester of college and LOVED it.

9. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

My boyfriend and I lived with one of his good friends for a while and I picked up this book when we were spending a lot of time there. The boys would watch their shows while I curled up with the cat reading this and it’s just such a great memory. One that I miss so much.

10. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I read this on a long weekend when my family took one of our long car trips. My parents love going anywhere within driving distance, but their idea of driving distance is anywhere we can get in a single day. So I read the majority of this on a long car ride to one of my favorite places in the world: Monterey California. Look it up if you haven’t heard of it, gorgeous beaches and one of the most amazing aquariums in the world!
